Violent clashes erupt at Jerusalem’s holiest site

Masked Palestinian youths throw stones at Israeli policemen, not seen, during Israeli police firing stun grenades faced off Sunday against masked Palestinian protesters hurling stones and plastic chairs outside the Holy Land’s most volatile shrine, where past violence has escalated into prolonged conflict.

A wall of Israeli riot police behind plexiglass shields marched toward young men covering their faces with T-shirts and scarves, sending many of them running for cover into the Al-Aqsa mosque, one of the Islamic structures in the compound known to Jews as the Temple Mount and to Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary.

They remained holed up in the mosque with police outside for several hours until dispersing before nightfall. Eighteen protesters were arrested, and no serious injuries were reported. But even mild troubles at the disputed compound in Jerusalem’s Old City can quickly ignite widespread unrest, and police remained on high alert.

“Jerusalem is a red line that Israel should not cross,” said Palestinian Authority spokesman Nabil Abu Rdeneh, condemning the Israeli police action.

A visit to the site in 2000 by Ariel Sharon, then an Israeli opposition leader and later prime minister, helped ignite deadly clashes that escalated into violence that engulfed Israel and the Palestinian territories for several years.

Sunday’s disturbances were rooted in calls from Muslim leaders for their followers to protect the Islamic sites from what they said were Israeli plots to damage them or let Jews pray in the compound. There was no evidence to support either claim.

Palestinians are also angry about stalled peace talks and ongoing Israeli construction in east Jerusalem and the West Bank, areas they want for a future state.

War is the result of a mental illness. There are no Muslims. There are no Jews. There are only sick humans who gather in opposing groups that lack imagination needed to get along. Rather than communicate, cooperate and share resources like healthy adults, they fight like diseased wolves.

I believe that if either group was completely removed from the area in question, the remaining people would then divide into two new groups and continue warring. This is evident in Ireland where one type of Christan battles the other and each calls the other “terrorist.”

I believe the cause is a multi-generational brain disease. I hope that scientists uncover the genes causing this embarrassing and behavior by otherwise good people.

  1. The ordinary peace-loving Palestinian doesn’t stand a chance for a good life in Israel. Who believes that? . . . . I do. The Israeli decide that they want to create a Jewish settlement, and they shove the Palestinians out like rubbish.

    1. Imagine this: Two adults want the same car. Both feel entitled to it. One had ownership first, but the 2nd person has a gun and is willing to kill to take the car. What do you think should happen in this situation? How should it be resolved?

Would you die to keep a car? Hell no. You can get another car.

Now, what if you believed this car is the only car on earth with special magic powers which can save yourself from eternal torture and make your soul live forever in joy in an afterlife after your body dies? If you deeply believe this, would you die fighting to keep the car? Yes.

You see, this is the problem in the Middle East. Both sides are crazy about needing to live in their holy place. Jesus should have come down years ago and said this:

Jesus: “I, Jesus Christ the son of the Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, hereby declare ALL places on Earth to be Holy Land. Got it? Everywhere!! Dudes, your problems are solved. There are now SO many other places to live. Make peace, co-mingle your tribes and let the fruit of your loins never again be filled with feelings of victim-hood. No one is rubbish. You are all humans, worthy of respect, love and attention. Do the right thing. Oh, yeah, and one more thing… I spread the oil out equally under every country now. Giving you different resources was supposed to teach you cooperation, but you ran out of time. Fail! Anyway, pay attention to Xenophilius, he will be speaking for me from time to time.”

Thanks Yeshua, I’ll try. Here is a one minute understanding of the Middle East conflict historically: This area has changed hands many times in the course of history. For the last 90 years, two groups have battled it out.

David Ben Gurion, who would lead the Yishuv (the Jewish community in Palestine) and go on to be the first Prime Minister of Israel, told a meeting of the governing body of the Jewish Yishuv in 1919 “But not everybody sees that there is no solution to this question…We as a nation, want this country to be ours, the Arabs as a nation, want this country to be theirs.

The Zionist movement was founded by Theodor Herzl in 1897. … “Zionism” derives its name from “Zion,” (pronounced “Tzyion” in Hebrew) a hill in Jerusalem…

Occurring over 150 times in the Bible, the word “Zion” essentially means “fortification.” In the Bible, the Zion is both the city of David and the city of God. As the Bible progresses, the word Zion transitioned from referring primarily to a physical city, to a more spiritual context. … When Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem, the word Zion expanded in meaning to include also the Temple and the area surrounding it (Psalms 2:6; 48:2,11-12; 132:13). Zion was eventually used as a name for the city of Jerusalem, the land of Judah, and the people of Israel as a whole (Isaiah 40:9; Jeremiah 31:12; Zechariah 9:13). …
