Today’s true strange news post shows what happens if you do not cut or bite your fingernails for more than 20 years. Yikes!
Ayanna Williams of Houston in Texas, USA, has been growing her nails for more than 20 years. When Guinness World Records measured them earlier this year, they had a combined total length of 576.4 cm (18 ft 10.9 in). The nails on her left hand are longer than her right, measuring a total of 326.5 cm (10 ft 8.5 in) compared with 249.8 cm (8 ft 2.3 in). …
When she’s not painting her own fingernails, Ayanna is giving manicures to clients as she works as a nail technician. In order to protect them, she avoids washing dishes and sleeps with them resting on a pillow.
Ayanna became the record holder for the Longest fingernails on a pair of hands (female) after Chris “The Dutchess” Walton (also USA) cut her own nails, which had grown to a total length of 731.4 cm (23 ft 11 in).
Ayanna’s longest individual nail is on her left thumb, and measures 68 cm (2 ft 2.7 in). …
As far as nail records go, even Chris Walton’s previous 23 ft 11 in was beaten by a man in India. Shridhar Chillal’s amazing total 29 ft 10.1 inch nail record is from just one hand.
Shridhar Chillal has been growing his nails for 62 years. He appears in the Guinness World Records 2016 book with the record title for longest fingernails on a single hand ever. …
He has not cut the fingernails on his left hand since 1952 – before even the first Guinness World Records book was published – and they now have a cumulative length of 909.6 cm (358.1 in), as measured in Pune City, Maharashtra, India, on 17 November 2014.
… The most impressive is his thumbnail which measures an unbelievable 197.8 cm and curls into a tight coil at the end.
I’m sure Guinness would not be fooled by him gluing the nails of others onto his own? Nothing personal against Shridhar, but they look in the photos a bit like he did that to me.
In any case, strangely enough, fingernails much longer than is now in style represent our true unadulterated human nature.
