Video: Driverless Motorcycle in Singapore

The explanation for this odd riderless motorcycle on an expressway in Singapore makes sense, but it was very surprising for the person who saw it and captured the footage on his dashboard camera. We have driverless cars now, of course, but motorcycles?

Here’s the video:

Nov. 5 (UPI) — A confused driver on a Singapore highway captured video of an unusual sight: a motorcycle traveling down the road without a rider.

The dashboard camera video shows the motorcycle weaving back and forth inside its lane in front of the filmer’s car on an expressway.

“We were on our way home entering the expressway when a rider-less motorbike came into our path. We were shocked and spooked initially, thinking it was post-Halloween, only to verify with the rider that he was flung off in an accident,” he filmer wrote.

“Many who watched the video commented ‘Ghost Rider,'” they wrote.

Hopefully the former rider came out okay. Strangely enough, there is at least one working driverless motorcycle.

BMW unveiled the first driverless motorbike, based on the best-selling BMW R1200 GS model that can independently drive off, accelerate, circle a winding test track and independently slow down to a complete stop. … Developed by graduate engineer Stefan Hans and his team, the driverless motorcycle independently drove off, accelerated, circled a winding test track and independently slowed down to a complete stop. … Despite the amazing feeling to see this artificial intelligence-powered bike driving around the racetrack, BMW said that it has no intention, at least in the near future, to sell a “completely independent motorbike,” and that the underlying technology will be used as a platform to develop future systems and functions to make motorcycling safer and more comfortable.

In other words, we should not be seeing riderless motorcycle drones on our freeways any time soon.
