Here’s a strange sight. Large live fish and cars don’t often share the same location successfully, but video recorded last Sunday shows such a surreal event taking place.
Terri Sue Potter recorded video Sunday showing multiple fish swimming across the shallow waters flooding a small section of U.S. Highway 101 in the Shelton area.
Alexis Leonard, a fish hatchery specialist, also recorded video of the unusual phenomenon.
Leonard said the fish come from the Skokomish River and sometimes end up on roads and other areas when the nearly creeks flood during the spawning season.
“If they’re lucky, it’ll meet up with the creek on the other side of the road, if they’re not they’re stranded,” Leonard told CNN.
In King County, the swollen Snoqualmie River continues to flood pastures and roadways, and more flooding is expected. A flood warning remains intact but should be lifted sometime Monday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) cautions drivers to never take a vehicle through any flooded area, which is the main cause of flood-related deaths in Washington. Watch for rapidly changing conditions. Turn around, don’t drown.
Here are a few more videos of this craziness.
Enjoy the unique strangeness of each day.
