Here’s a strange story in the weird news. A 104-year-old woman, Anne Brokenbrow, who never had been on the wrong side of the law, was detained in a care home, cuffed and taken away in a police car. The reason: she wanted to be arrested once in her life. As part of a bucket list program for charity, she wrote:
“My wish is… to be arrested. I am 104 and I have never been on the wrong side of the law.”
After the experience she had this to say:
“I had a lovely day, it was interesting. Nothing like that ever happened to me before. They put the handcuffs on, I had the lot.
“What did it feel like being a criminal? Well, it will make me much more careful of what I say and do. But the police were very nice throughout.”

Words of wisdom. I have a lot of gratitude and respect toward local police in California. I see them a lot as I report the strange news from the road and I do appreciate them.
Sometimes things go wrong and they kill someone who did not do anything threatening, and this is horrible, for everyone, but we also don’t hear about times they see their coworkers killed, or the many times they save people’s lives while risking their own. They have a job that is more difficult and more complicated than most people ever realize.
Anyway, the police can be quite cool to those who stay on the right side of the law.
I don’t have any, “I support my local police” stickers on my car, but in my home town, I did once call the City Council to see if we could get the police department more money. They are underfunded and this situation leads to more crime.
Is it strange want to be arrested just for the experience? I think so, but I’m glad Miss Brokenbrow enjoyed her ride.
