Real Gator Lounges on an Inflatable Gator

This unlikely sight from a vacation home in Florida is the best strange thing I’ve seen today. Alligators are turning up all over in Florida, because this is their mating season according to one report.

A Georgia family vacationing in Florida captured photos of an unusual scene: an alligator lounging on an inflatable gator in their rental home’s pool.

… Sunday, when they found the alligator lounging atop an inflatable alligator floating in the home’s backyard pool.

“My daughter-in-law, who’s 14, was like, ‘Dad, this is soooo meta,'” Jacobs told the Miami New Times.

Jacobs said his wife contacted the Airbnb’s owner, who called a wildlife trapper to relocate the reptile.

Smart kid. I like to say that the universe has an irony engine, but “so meta” works as well. Meta:

A term, especially in art, used to characterize something that is characteristically self-referential. “So I just saw this film about these people making a movie, and the movie they were making was about the film industry…” “Dude, that’s so meta.

How did this little alligator get on for a ride without popping the floating pool toy? Found it here:

Here’s the answer: This pool toy is well made, stronger than plastic:

“Its constructed with durable 12 gauge vinyl and 2 air chambers. Repair patch comes with it, room for multiple riders.”

Yes, a real alligator would fit on it just fine.
