Freak atmospheric conditions combined to form this stunning site in the UK sky – an UPSIDE DOWN rainbow. The dazzling vision called a circumzenithal arc, something rarely seen outside the polar regions, caused by sunlight being refracted through ice crystals high in the atmosphere. The inverted rainbow was captured on camera by astronomer Dr Jacqueline Mitton, 60, near her home in Cambridge, Cambs., at 4.45pm on last Sunday (14).
