Video: Deer Attacks Mall Windows + Self-Aware Ants

Nebraska animal experts say a deer that smashed several windows at an Omaha strip mall was likely trying to fight its own reflection. Video here: The deer was caught on video Tuesday morning running the length of the strip mall and attacking several windows, completely shattering some. The deer was seen breaking windows at stores including Beauty First and Tuesday Morning. Kelli Brown of the Omaha Humane Society said the deer apparently confused its reflection in the windows for a rival male. “This is the time of year we have what is called a rut, and that’s when a lot … Continue reading Video: Deer Attacks Mall Windows + Self-Aware Ants

Skull Shaped Asteroid May be a Dead Comet

A roughly skull shaped asteroid, possibly the remains of a comet, will pass by the earth this November 11th. On Oct. 10, 2015, astronomers in Hawaii made a spooky discovery: a giant asteroid between 625 and 700 meters zipping through space, that at certain angles looks uncannily like a human skull. – via Quartz Better late to the Halloween party than never: An asteroid shaped like a grinning skull is set to pass by Earth on Nov. 11. Asteroid 2015 TB145 was first discovered in 2015, when it zipped within 301,986 miles (486,000 kilometers) of Earth right on Halloween. What Was Enriched Uranium Doing Miles Above the Aleutian Islands

On this date in 2016, a research plane discovered a mysterious radioactive particle in the atmosphere which should not have been there. On August 3, 2016, seven kilometers above Alaska’s Aleutian Islands, a research plane captured something mysterious: an atmospheric aerosol particle enriched with the kind of uranium used in nuclear fuel and bombs. It’s the first time scientists have detected such a particle just floating along in the atmosphere in 20 years of plane-based observations. Uranium is the heaviest element to occur naturally on Earth’s surface in an appreciable amount. Normally it occurs as the slightly radioactive isotope uranium-238, … Continue reading What Was Enriched Uranium Doing Miles Above the Aleutian Islands

Videos: Deadly Volcano Erupts in Guatemala

The videos below are from the latest deadly eruption of Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala a few days ago. Guatemala has 29 volcanoes and it is about the size of the state of Virginia. At least 69 people were killed when a volcano in Guatemala spewed lava, ash, rocks and deadly hot gas, authorities said late Monday. The Volcán de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, began erupting Sunday. Hours later, fast-moving flows surprised communities that had not been ordered to evacuate. Ash spread through the sky, and blanketed Guatemala City, some 40 miles away. More than 3,200 residents of communities … Continue reading Videos: Deadly Volcano Erupts in Guatemala

Video: Buffalo Flips Young Lion In Air, Saves Lizard

Today’s strange news is a buffalo flipping a lion caught on camera. What do you think, did the buffalo care at all about the lizard it saved, or did it just not like the lion(s) in its territory? Also, where did the lizard go? Was it really saved? This was posted on YouTube by Kruger Sightings. Somehow I do not think the Buffalo likes either the lion or the lizard. the Komodo dragon can kill prey as large as water buffalo. Dragons are prolific scavengers, and a single decaying carcass can attract several from 2 km (1.2 mi) away. A 50 kg (110 lb) … Continue reading Video: Buffalo Flips Young Lion In Air, Saves Lizard

Self Brainwashing for Positive Transformation (without 18-MC)

In meditation I had the thought that our minds may be illusory, the inglorious result of phrase picker engines operating to “light up” the brain’s reward center, and that I may not exist as anything more than the result of that neural process. I don’t feel that way, however, and even if true, it’s not particularly useful. The idea may be a type of dissociation, a kind of running from difficult thoughts, like grief and sadness. — Much of what we do and say may be the result of the battle of different ideas within us. Having made comments on … Continue reading Self Brainwashing for Positive Transformation (without 18-MC)

Partly Fake: Rare Black Chicken Lays Black Eggs

There are circulating pictures of a black chicken with black eggs, but all sources checked say the black Ayam Cemani lays cream colored eggs, not black. Thus, the composite image below is misleading. Black Ayam Cemani chickens are real and the black looking eggs are real eggs, but from an entirely different bird. Which bird? I started with one of the most dubious web sites, Answers.com. This site has so much bad information that it should be renamed “Guesses.com” in my view. I read Answers.com mainly to see what they get wrong.  Here is an image of the Answers.com summary … Continue reading Partly Fake: Rare Black Chicken Lays Black Eggs

The Unlikely Story of Frane Selak

Some folks have super weird luck. In the past, we wrote about Bill Morgan, an Australian who came back from the dead then won the lottery twice, Roy Sullivan, who survived being struck by lightning seven times, and Radivoje Lajic, a Bosnian whose house was hit six different times by meteorites, or so he claims. Now, consider the extraordinary tale of Frane Selak an 88-year-old Croatian music teacher who reportedly escaped death several times in amazing ways and then won over a million dollars in the lottery. Here is a cartoon video summary of his amazing story: More details are … Continue reading The Unlikely Story of Frane Selak

Videos: Kilauea Volcano Smiles, Lava Eats Part of Hawaii

Lava from the big island of Hawaii’s most active volcano, Kilauea, has been devouring some homes there and is causing evacuations of over 1,700 residents. The inhabitants are dealing not only with the lava but also with toxic sulfur dioxide fumes and earthquakes, one a powerful 6.9 on the Richter scale. Here is the weirdest part of it: One of Kilauea’s craters smiled during the lava invasion. Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has been actively erupting since 1983, and it’s one of the most active volcanoes in the world, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). But the volcano received more attention … Continue reading Videos: Kilauea Volcano Smiles, Lava Eats Part of Hawaii
