How to Look After Your Mental Health

People who enjoy their lives and are able to cope well with life’s challenges tend to have good mental health. This includes being able to relax, take time out when they need it and be able to maintain their social networks. Good sleep, exercise and eating a healthy diet are also essential.

Everyone may move up and down on the mood and coping scale at different times, but when it’s a permanent change or they are having trouble completing daily tasks this could be a sign that they have a mental illness. The ability to recognise when this occurs and seek help is crucial. Talking therapy is a useful option. For times when I need someone to talk to, seek out a site such as someonetolisten.co.uk/

Try to practise mindfulness and relaxation activities, such as taking a warm bath or listening to relaxing music. Spending time in natural environments has been shown to be extremely beneficial. This could involve walking in the woods, visiting the seaside or even some simple gardening in your own back garden. Some people find that doing a hobby helps, such as painting, writing or playing an instrument. It doesn’t matter what you do, as long as it makes you happy and relaxed.

Having a network of support is also hugely beneficial.  You don’t need to see people in person if they live far away, staying in touch can be done through video calls, phone calls or messaging apps.
