On my tour of the USA a few years ago, I visited all 48 lower states in 3 months, a drive of about 18,300 miles. One of the most memorable highlights for me was the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia where I walked around by some wild alligators. The ones I saw were not huge, but they were still amazing.
An alligator was recently found in Georgia that was so large many people thought it was fake. After it was lifted out of a ditch and onto the road and examined, it was unfortunately put down because it was in such bad condition from previous wounds.
If you get a chance to see live wild alligators, from a safe distance, I recommend the experience. Until we have a real Jurassic Park, being around alligators is as close as we can get to visiting living dinosaurs.
