How to ensure your fencing is dog-proof
Many dog owners will know that not all fences are the same when it comes to keeping our beloved pooches safe in the garden.
In fact, dogs can find a variety of ways to escape through unsuitable fencing – smaller dogs can squeeze through gaps underneath the panels, some dig their way out, and agile dogs have even been known to leap over the top of a fence that’s too low.
Let’s take a look at some ways to ensure your fencing is dog proof to keep your pet safe in the garden.
Height
The height of fencing is an important consideration. Select a fence that’s at least 6 feet tall, particularly if you have a large or athletic dog that can jump a decent height.
Material
Metal fences are stronger than wooden ones, which is particularly important if you have a stockily built dog who likes to try and break out for freedom. Wrought iron railings are a very sturdy, immovable option. The main benefit of wrought iron railings is that they also look great in the garden while keeping pets safe from harm.
Prevent Digging
Some dogs love to dig, and it’s a completely natural behaviour. Avoid any weak spots where they could dig their way out underneath the fence, such as buried fencing or concrete posts.
Dog Behaviour
It’s important to take into account your dog’s personality. Some dogs bark more if they can peek through the fence, while others are agitated if visibility is obscured.
